Funny quotes:

As we were leaving the recovery room, we stopped by the waiting room for Jonathan and the grandparents to follow us.  I went to get them and told Corbin I was going to get them to follow our train.  As they came over to follow us, Corbin, in his raspy voice said, “All aboard... choo choo!”

After surgery, we like to prepare ourselves because Corbin has NO filter on what he says.  Past experiences included telling a nurse she was sticky, looking at me very closely in the face - only to announce, “I don’t like your freckles.” etc.  Today Corbin told me, “You have a pretty smile, Mama.”  I’ll take that one.

In the recovery room the first think Corbin said was, “My mouth taste bad - like Drs.”

When we first got to his room on the 6th floor, he told me, “Mommy, my body told me it needs to rest.”

February 23 - Today was a normal pre-op day and Corbin was very brave.  We saw some familiar nurses and Corbin breezed through his x-rays, examinations, and even his .... BLOOD WORK!  If you know Corbin, you know this is probably the scariest part of the whole process for him.  Granddad came up to the hospital with us for a little bit and  taught Corbin to look away rather than watch them take his blood.  The nurses put numbing cream on his arm, but he was sure it was still going to hurt.  Much to his surprise, when he looked away, it wasn’t near as bad as he thought.  And he told anyone who would listen that “he didn’t even cry!”  I am truly amazed at how he handles the whole process.  He is scheduled to be the first surgery in the morning and we are checking in at 6:30 am.  Callie and Cade hung out with Grandmom, so they had a pretty good morning, too.  Tonight we had fun on the Riverwalk and we even caught a ride on a horse and carriage.   Corbin happily fell asleep and seems much more relaxed now that his blood work is behind him.  Here is a picture from our carriage ride-

February 24 - On surgery day, one of the things Corbin hates most is the morning rinse off we do before we head to the hospital.  This morning I undressed Corbin on his way to the bathroom and he woke up as the water was hitting him.  To say he was mad is an understatement!  Once at the hospital, Corbin’s back was again wiped down and we were put in a room until they were ready for us upstairs.  We actually ended up being the second case today.  Sometime after 8:00, we went to the holding area on the 2nd floor.  This is where the wild man came out...  Besides being pretty sassy, Corbin also danced around with Playhouse Disney, tried to “surf the waves” while standing on the rocking chair, and played games on one of the surgery computers.  We can also tell when Corbin gets stressed about his surgeries because he gets pretty emotional and a little rude.  From time to time he would just look at me and say he didn’t want back surgery.  Broke my heart.  Jonathan went back with Corbin until he was completely under.  Anyway, Dr. Cofer was Corbin’s surgeon this time and he expanded the rod about 1 1/2 centimeters.  Corbin was pretty out of it after his surgery, but would occasionally wake up to either tell us something “important” or complain about being nauseated.  Although he was feeling pretty sick, he did rest a lot and enjoyed visits from some of his cousins, siblings, and grandparents.  Jonathan is staying the night with Corbin and I am back at the hotel with Callie and Cade.  Here are pictures from the day:
