8/23/2009 - We checked into our hotel tonight and everyone is in good spirits. Corbin is jumping on the bed and playing monster with Daddy and as of 11:10, Callie is still standing up and peering over her pack-n-play, wanting to play. We have to go to pre-op at 8:00 am and hope to go to the zoo after we get done at the hospital.
8/24/2009 - Today we went up to the hospital at 8 am for pre-op. Our hospital is so organized and good to their “rib kids.” We are so fortunate to be able to come to San Antonio for Corbin’s care. Corbin really hated the nurses taking his blood this time and unfortunately, he didn’t make enough blood in the first stick, so they had to do his other arm, too. He is such a little trooper! Callie pretty much just took a nap in her stroller. We decided to head over to the zoo after we were finished at the hospital. Um... let’s just say San Antonio in August is crazy HOT! We were all gross and sweaty and really lingered in all the indoor exhibits! Anyway, we are the first surgery in the morning and have to be there at 6:30. Thanks for keeping us in your prayers!!
8/27/2009 - Just a quick note to let everyone know we are home. We were discharged yesterday and got home last night. Corbin is having slight pain, but thinks he is ok - so he will overdo it. So, today we are just going to take it easy and relax. We are thankful to be home and look forward to our little champ healing and getting back to normal!
8/25/2009 - 9:15 am - Good morning! Our alarms went off pretty early and Corbin was not pleased to have to take a bath at 6 am. Honestly, so far, that has been the worst part of his day! After getting his vitals and another scrub down, we separated from Corbin around 8:15. Wow! Anyway, he is in surgery as we speak. Jonathan and I are drinking our coffees and just waiting. Here are a couple of pictures from our morning.
10:30 pm - We are all getting settled in for the night. Right after my last update, Dr. Doski came out and told us Corbin was done with the surgery and did very well. He didn’t even cry going back to the operating room. We are so thankful! Around 9:45 they let me go back to the recovery area. As I was walking up, Corbin was getting very upset. Once he saw me, he calmed down... for about 4 seconds! Then he was MAD! He was crying and yelling and throwing anything he could get his hands on, which only stirred up more pain. Four nurses and I worked hard to settle him down. I just laughed because it was just so overwhelming! I mean what do you do when a 3 year old is yelling at strangers “Leave me alone - NOW” and “I DO NOT LIKE YOU!” in his toughest and most distraught voice? So sad! Once I was holding him and he got a little morphine, he calmed down. Anyway, as we were about to get wheeled out of recovery, there was a foul smell in our area. Corbin, who was still not happy, started questioning everybody...”Someone stinks...Who stinks?” over and over again. I seriously could not wait for Jonathan to meet back up with us so I could tell him about our time in recovery! We also noticed that Corbin’s puppy and lambo had back surgery today, too. These two stuffed animals get to go back with Corbin for his surgeries and today, they came back with some bandages on their backs! Can I tell you again how much I love our Drs and staff? The rest of the day has been uneventful, which is great! Corbin slept all afternoon and got up to eat dinner and play with his grandparents. He even rode a trike around the floor tonight. Amazing! We are hoping for a good night and will hopefully go home tomorrow. Callie has been great. She got to spend the day with my parents and has been spoiled with attention. Thanks again for thinking about us!
